It has been shown that pets ease stress and often lead to a longer life for their human owners. However, when the animals in your life are not pets, but are instead feral, or wild, cats, then the stress level can increase.
Feral cats are not socialized to people, so they are not adoptable. They don’t belong indoors and are usually wary of humans. They can also be dangerous because they can carry some people diseases, including rabies, hookworm, and toxoplasmosis, which is an infection known to cause miscarriages and birth defects.
How to Get Rid of Feral Cats
There is a program called Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), which benefits the cats and the community. Cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped (the universal symbol of a neutered and vaccinated cat), and then returned to their outdoor home.
The traps we sell at Bug & Weed Mart are designed to catch a number of different mammals, including rabbits, squirrels, rodents, as well as feral cats. The traps obviously make catching these feral cats easier and is a more humane way of dealing with them.
We also sell a fabulous product for deterring feral cats or other unwanted mammals. It’s a ready-to-use liquid spray that acts as a repellent AND it's natural! For less than $30, it’s fantastic at keeping cats off patio furniture, door mats, pots and plants, landscaping, screen doors, and other outdoor items.
