It’s easy to forget about insects during our brief winter here in the desert, but all kinds of insects are still around, even if you can't see them. And they will continue to bug you if you don't maintain a barrier between them and your home even though it's cooler outside. If you are thinking, "I can do my own pest control in Tempe, AZ" or anywhere else here in the metro Phoenix area, you're right!
All those holiday dishes we prepare this time of year attract bugs and rodents. Even though the peak of the pest community seems to culminate during the latter portion of the monsoon, we live in the Sonoran desert where it seldom freezes. The bug populations, while somewhat reduced, are still alive and well during the fall/winter season here. And while pesky insects may not be top of mind for our customers right now, they certainly are for us. That’s because it’s our business to help you keep your home free and clear of anything that bugs you.
Here are some simple ways to keep your house bug and pest free during the holidays and throughout the winter:
- Make sure the leftover Halloween candy is either eaten or stored in the kitchen, not in your child's sock drawer. You might end up finding their stash months later!
- Make sure you clean up after every party, especially in the corners. Pests like to celebrate by finding the delicious morsels you leave behind.
- You may be tempted to leave some foods on the counter because of the cooler weather. Don't do it!
- Cover all leftovers tightly and store them in the fridge.
