Weed Control: How to Get Rid of Weeds

Weed Control: How to Get Rid of Weeds

Weeds are a hassle — they not only look ugly but can overrun your lawn and garden while attracting other pests. When it comes to these pesky growers, prevention is the best approach. At Bug & Weed Mart we have everything you need to get rid weeds for good, whether that's preventing future growth or getting what's already in your yard.

The best way to treat weeds is not to have them! We prefer using pre-emergents to prevent weeds from even growing in the first place. We can show you how to get rid of weeds using products that are safe to use around your yard.

Pro Tip

When applying the weed killer, choose a sunny day when the temperature is at least 72°. It's faster, cheaper, and most effective!

1. Pre-Emergents

These products prevent weeds - lasting from 6 months to a year. Depending on which type of pre-emergent is used, they can be applied over flowers, shrubs, and grass. They stop seeds from germinating. It generally only costs about $5 to treat 1,000 square feet for six months. When our weed killer is applied using a pump-up sprayer, the weeds absorb the herbicide, carrying it down to the root of the weed, effectively killing it.

2. Post-Emergents

As the name states, these products are the exact opposite of pre-emergents. Post-emergents kill whatever weed you spray; they do not prevent weeds from growing. Bug & Weed Mart carries specific post-emergents for weeds such as nutgrass, crabgrass, and spurge without harming your grass. When using a post-emergent to kill weeds, you will be happy to note your lawn will not be harmed.

3. Sterilants

Generally these products work well - up to two years, but can cause harm to adjacent shrubs, trees, etc. Our expert staff can advise you whether a sterilant is a correct choice to use in your instance.

Pre-Emergents vs Post-Emergents

Weeds can be relentless, especially during spring and if you have not applied pre-emergent. Pre-emergent treatment stops seeds from growing. It does not kill existing weeds, but it can prevent future weeds from growing for six months or more. The only way to kill the weed itself is by using weed killer, or post-emergent.

Our weed killer products are professional, commercial grade and can be used to treat a small yard or acres of land. And they can control just about any weed, including spurge, crabgrass, nutgrass, and Bermuda grass.

How Do I Get Rid Of Weeds In The Lawn?

When temperatures are over 100°, most of us who have lawns are using even more water to keep the grass growing.  Trouble is, with that added water, weeds can invade the lawn, and in just weeks they can really take over when left untreated. Then you ask yourself, “How do I get rid of weeds in the lawn?”

Bug & Weed Mart sells products that will kill those pesky weeds without damaging your grass or soil. Simple to mix, these liquid concentrates combine with water (and wetting agent, too!) in your pump-up sprayer OR even your hose-end sprayer for big jobs. By applying directly to the weeds, the weeds will absorb the herbicide, carrying it down to the root of the weed, killing it. Your grass will continue to flourish, unharmed! No more weeds in the lawn!
